El domingo se celebraron los Oscar y varias personas quedaron con los ojos abiertos, no por la premiación en sí, sino por el momento en el que Will Smith subió al escenario a darle un cachetazo al comediante Chris Rock por hacer una “broma” sobre su esposa, Jada Pinkett Smith. El domingo 27 de marzo se celebró la 94ª edición de los Premios Oscar de la Academia de las Artes y las Ciencias Cinematográficas en el Dolby Theatre, Los Ángeles. Esta ceremonia contó con tres anfitrionas Amy Schumer, Regina Hall y Wanda Sykes; y, como todos los años, fue televisada en en vivo y en directo por TNT. Con varias bromas incómodas o de mal gusto, la premiación tuvo momentos memorables, emotivos e impactantes, pero, el que quedo para el recuerdo fue el cachetazo que le Will Smith le dio al comediante Chris Rock después de que éste hiciera un “chiste” sobre su esposa, Jada Pinkett Smith.
Una de las favoritas para llevarse varias estatuillas era The Power of the Dog, la película con más nominaciones de la noche (12). Sin embargo, solo ganó en la categoría de Mejor Director, donde Jane Campion se consagró como la tercera mujer en llevarse este premio. En un caso similar, West Side Story, con 11 nominaciones, recibió solo un Oscar que se lo llevó Ariana DeBose como Mejor Actriz de Reparto. Dune fue la gran ganadora de la noche, de 10 nominaciones ganó seis: Mejor Edición de Sonido, Banda Sonora, Montaje, Diseño de Producción, Fotografía y Efectos Visuales. Para sorpresa de muchos, CODA ganó en todas las categorías en donde estaba nominada, llevándose tres estatuillas, incluida la de Mejor Película.
Los premios Oscar sin duda son una de las premiaciones más importantes del cine, sin embargo, en los últimos años siempre son noticia por algo fuera de lo común. Esta vez el protagonismo se lo llevó Will Smith, no por ganar el Oscar como mejor actor, sino por subir al escenario y golpear a Chris Rock por hacer un chiste de mal gusto sobre la cabeza rapada de su esposa, Jada Pinkett Smith, quien padece de alopecia. “Mantén el nombre de mi esposa fuera de tu maldita boca”, gritó dos veces el reconocido actor a Rock.
